The highly anticipated release of Playboi Carti’s “MUSIC” has arrived, and it has generated a lot of mixed reviews. After a nearly five year wait, the album’s 30 song track list has been met with both praise and heavy criticism, with many reviewers pointing out inconsistencies in the overall project.
This album compared to Carti’s previous work, “Whole Lotta Red” has brought a slight improvement in the mixing of the songs. However, a significant point is that numerous tracks feel underdeveloped, resembling weaker variations of existing songs. Featured artists were included such as Lil Uzi Vert, and even high profile artists like Future, Travis Scott, and Kendrick Lamar who were described as failing to reach their full potential on this album.
Despite what people thought, “MUSIC” has its highlights. Tracks like “Pop Out,” “Crush,” “Evil Jordan,” “Crank”, and “HBA” have gotten their praise for their energy and unique sound. The inclusion of Kendrick Lamar gave the album more popularity, with reviews offering mixed opinions on his contributions. However, the overall review leans towards the album being “unfocused, sloppy, inconsistent, and messily pieced together.”
The album sparked debates among fans and critics alike, which strengthened Playboi Carti’s reputation as an artist who consistently provokes strong reactions and controversy. While some celebrate his experimental approach, others express disappointment at the perceived lack of cohesiveness in the album. Regardless, “MUSIC” has undoubtedly made its mark, ensuring that Playboi Carti remains a central figure in contemporary music debates.
Even though a lot of people thought the album was not worth the five year wait, I think this album was a sign that there is more to hear from Playboi Carti. Most of the songs were decent, unlike other ones that overshadowed the rest of the decent tracks on the album.
