Volleyball and powerlifting coach Erica Rodriguez demonstrates proper technique to freshman Angelina Rodriguez.
Juggling different things like being coach for different sports and also being a mom at the same time is hard, and not a lot can handle it or know how to manage it, but Erica Rodriguez does an amazing job.
Coach Rodriguez is a volleyball and power-lifting coach at John F. Kennedy High School in San Antonio, Texas. She is also a mom at home to a daughter and new son who arrived in December.
Rodriguez decided to join the Kennedy team after growing up in the community. She wanted to give back to other kids and help them how she was once helped.
“I grew up in this area, so I figured that I’d come back and work with these kids,” Rodriguez said. Not only does she want to help these kids, but she also wants to help give back the same opportunities she once got that helped her get where she is right now.
If she wasn’t coaching, she would have opened a non-profit organization that would benefit immigrant kids. She sees herself doing this in a couple of years.
“I would like to create a nonprofit organization for immigrant kids, I see myself doing that in a few years.”
By helping immigrant kids in her community Rodriguez feels like she’s helping and giving back to the community. Her goal is not only to try to open this non-profit organization.
Rodriguez commented that she also would love to bring back the school spirit and enthusiasm to go up since it’s been getting worse and worse over the last couple of years.
Although her only job has been as a coach right after finishing college, she still loves being a coach and the interactions she has with students every day.
Not a lot of people can say they’re doing an amazing job at being a coach of different sports while also being a mom of 2 young kids, but Erica Rodriguez can say she’s doing a good job.
