The Weeknd, Abel Tesfaye, has released his final album, “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” and with no surprise, it has gained an insane amount of attention.
The album dropped on the 31st of January, it has 22 songs and is 84 minutes long. The Weeknd has announced that this is his last album for the public, but to clear the confusion, it is the last album that he will produce under his stage name, ‘The Weeknd.’ Abel wants to retire his stage name and has not made any public announcements about his new name.
This album has a lot to say, for starters; the album was inspired the day he lost his voice during the After Hours Till Dawn tour at SoFi Stadium in September 2023. This caused the show to end short and he truly reflected on who he was without a voice. In many interviews and statements, he said himself that the album “Hurry Up Tomorrow” was very affected by that one single day. On the album, the notable song “I Can’t F*cking Sing” strongly portrays that exact night, with also many other songs on the album talking about the power of his own voice.
The Weeknd is now known as the King of Pop and one of the greatest artists of our century. He has been at number one globally on Spotify for 6 months, with Blinding Lights being the “1 song of all time”. The Weeknd has made the most impactful markings in the music industry after MJ. And not to mention, The Weeknd pays tribute to the King of Pop, Micheal Jackson, on the song “Wake Me Up” with the sample of Thriller. Additionally, the ending of the final song “Hurry Up Tomorrow”, transitions into “High For This,” his very first song in his discography. The Weeknd really created art with his new album, and it is being shown so much love from fans and many other artists. The album has already started its impact by being Apple Music’s number one album currently. It also surpassed Bad Bunny’s album ‘DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS’ debut, which was 36.95 million, while ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ got 59.97 million for its debut.
The social events while the album was close to being finished had not been so great. With the L.A. fires, he had to really think about the awareness of his album. His single that was meant to be on the album, “Dancing In The Flames”, got removed from the album and his social media pages due to the misleading and controversial content he might have. With the unexpected event in Los Angeles, The Weeknd also had to postpone the album from January 25 to January 31 to show condolences; obviously, it was not what the fans wanted, but it was best to be done. Abel decided to donate $1 million to three organizations to aid the LA wildfires, and to show his love for the town. He has songs that talk about L.A. and even produced the song “Take Me Back To LA” on Hurry Up Tomorrow.
The Weeknd is an outstanding artist, and his tour will take place in our city for the first time on September 3rd this year. The tour is for all pop lovers and is confirmed to have songs from every album to end the cycle of The Weeknds’ Trilogy.
