Movies today just aren’t the same, and it feels as though the magic of cinema is disappearing. A good example of this, is the upcoming Snow White movie in 2025. The actress playing Snow White has openly criticized the original animated film, which is fine since everyone has their own opinion. But what’s confusing is that despite her complaints, she still accepted the role. If she didn’t like the original, why not create something new instead of altering a classic that’s been around for decades? Attempting to change the story to fit her own views seems odd, especially when the original Snow White is such an iconic tale.
Then there is the 2025 movies, which tries to update the story with today’s humor. They include references to TikTok and use slang like “sigma” and “rizz.” While some might find this amusing, it feels forced and awkward. Instead of preserving the charm of the original art of movies with its fun adventures and characters, the movie seems like it’s trying too hard to be relevant to today’s youth.
Now, there’s Shrek 5, which feels like it’s just inserting TikTok references to gain attention. The movie tries to be funny with trendy internet humor, but it falls flat. Shrek has always been known for its clever wit and breaking the fourth wall, but these new references feel out of place. Rather than adhering to the original style, the movie feels forced into today’s online trends.
The larger issue here is that the movie industry seems stuck on remakes and reboots instead of creating fresh content. Disney, for example, keeps remaking its old animated movies into live-action films. While some of them look nice, they don’t possess the same magic as the originals. The Lion King live-action remake, for instance, was visually stunning but lacked the heart of the animated version. Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Cinderella have all been remade, and none of them truly capture what made the original films special. However it’s tiring to have a repetitive cycle of the same ideas.
Even when Disney tries something original, it often doesn’t succeed. Animation technology has come a long way, but the storytelling seems to have deteriorated. Movies may appear more realistic, but they often lose the warmth and charm of hand-drawn animation. The plots of these new films can be confusing, and it’s frustrating to see Hollywood consistently changing great stories. It feels as if they’ve forgotten what made these films special in the first place: creativity, emotional depth, and telling simple tales in a way that feels magical.
In the end, it seems that Hollywood is more interested in cashing in on nostalgia and following trends than in creating something lasting. We have better technology than ever, yet the quality of films hasn’t improved. It’s disappointing to witness so many classic stories being twisted or remade instead of producing new films that could become future classics. Maybe it’s time for Hollywood to stop reworking the old and start focusing on making something new and exciting, something that could be cherished for generations to come.
