During the 7th and 8th periods, students at Kennedy packed into the gym to watch the annual Staff vs. Student volleyball game. Although the teachers may have won again, the students put up a strong fight. The final score of the last game was 23 to 25.
Before the game even started, Ms. Castillo entered with full confidence. “I’m excited. I know we’re going to win. I don’t even think I’m going to break a sweat,” said Castillo.
The students weren’t backing down. Julianne Sanchez, a junior, maintained a positive mindset. “I feel very excited. I’m really pumped. I’m kind of nervous though. The teachers are supposedly really good. They’ve been winning for the past two years. But we’re gonna try our hardest. We got it.” Even Miley Mcdonald, a Senior, who was scared at first, decided to participate anyway. “I wasn’t going to, but then they convinced me so…”

Then there was Augustine Trevino, a junior, who just kept it real. “We’re going to lose.”
Now, don’t get me wrong, the game was fun to watch, but it became somewhat confusing.
At one point, it felt like points were just getting handed out, but no one really knew why. People in the stands exchanged puzzled glances, as if to say, “Wait, what did they get that point for?” This made it challenging to keep track of what was actually happening sometimes.
While the game was in progress, students were also running a fundraiser for BPA near the gym. “We’re selling spicy and regular chips, Doritos, sodas, and water. Everything is one dollar except for the sodas,” said Yulliana Rabago. Ms. Cassiano explained why. “It’ll help us raise funds for our BPA competitions, regionals, state and nationals.”

The teachers walked away with another victory. The students had a shot, and it showed. If they keep that energy next game, they might just succeed.
