On January 20, 2025, was the day that trump issued several executive orders on immigration, the Latin community in America disagreed with his orders which led to the now protest Trumps immigrations policies. for a hopeful future for the next generation of Latinos in the US. Protesting a future where Latinos don’t get targeted for the next 4 years of Trumps presidency.
As of February 11,2025, Latino protesters are still protesting for the injustice against Latinos, but most importantly the ICE raids that are separating these families. Dallas and Los Angeles are among these cities with protesters filling up the streets to spread as much awareness as possible. In this protest they shout “Si se puede” and “Nadie es illegal” translating to “Yes we can”, “Nobody is illegal” referring to the people who believe that every Mexican doesn’t have papers or are not a citizen. Some Latinos feels as if the Latino community has been the most united as they ever been. Those who participated in these raids were mostly adults ,but the protesters had spread so much even high school students had participated in a walk-out to protest during class.
Yes, these protests are inspiring young Latinos to stand up against the government for what they believe is wrong, but not every protest is a peaceful one. What started as a peaceful protest escalated as buses, cars, and buildings started being vandalized, these accidents are reported more in Los Angeles. In other instances, on February 7 ,2025, In downtown Los Angeles, during an immigration protests a riot broke out where it ended up with someone being stabbed. Most of the people causing these serious crimes may not even care about Trumps immigrations policies and are just taking advantage of these protesters.
In this moment it is important to remember that ICE is going after anybody that they may have suspicions of being an illegal immigrant. For example, they have tricked people into letting them in their homes or workspaces to question them about having any kind of documentation that shows that they are allowed to stay in the US. This is affecting families who have an undocumented family member in their household who are waiting to gain any form of legal statuses in the US.
